White Lodging is pleased to announce the renaming of its new Autograph Collection hotel in San Antonio, TX., formerly known as The Otis Hotel. The new name, the Plaza San Antonio Hotel & Spa, Autograph Collection, is a nod to the area’s roots and hotel’s past identifiers. The 253-room hotel, located at 555 South Alamo Street in San Antonio, has had “plaza” in its name since it first opened in 1979 as the Plaza Nacional, making its new name a natural fit for this social gathering place. The hotel and spa is slated to open in Summer 2023.

Representing an intersection of many diverse neighborhoods with rich cultural history, the ‘plaza’ and its amenities brings people together just as it has since the hotel was originally built. The Plaza San Antonio features three 19th century bungalows and a garden oasis in the heart of downtown. The 253-room hotel will feature oversized guest suites with modern amenities, in addition to the repurposed historic buildings that will be home to the new day spa, as well as one-of-a-kind bungalow suites.

“The new Plaza San Antonio will be a place where guests and locals can really connect surrounded by lush greenery in the heart of the city,” said Joe Pagone, White Lodging Regional Vice President. “Our goal is to remain authentic to the location and celebrate community connection, which is why it felt like the right decision to incorporate ‘plaza’ back into the name.”

The hotel threads seamlessly with the existing historic buildings and will reflect key elements of the city around it. A 42 foot-tall Anaqua tree, once listed in the American Forestry Associations’ National Register of Big Trees, is also integrated into the landscape to ensure that it remains a spectacle to be enjoyed for years to come. Special signage referencing the historic elements of the hotel will also be incorporated into the design for guests to appreciate.

Naming the hotel Plaza San Antonio also serves as a better indicator of what guests can expect from the four-and-a-half-acre property. Plaza San Antonio is a sanctuary of connectivity with extraordinary cuisine, culture, creativity and community–complete with a garden oasis bar, lush green space, a resort-style swimming pool, and modern meeting spaces in addition to a destination spa and onsite restaurant. It’s the perfect launching point for exploration of the city’s diverse neighborhoods as the hotel is uniquely positioned directly between Downtown and Southtown San Antonio, offering easy access to the area’s vibrant communities and Hemisfair Park.

The Plaza San Antonio will be the first Autograph Collection hotel in San Antonio and is set to open its doors to guests in the summer of 2023.
