Assistant General Manager Job Overview

Assistant General Managers (AGMs) are second-in-command at our hotels, working closely with General Managers to oversee daily operations and ensure smooth functioning across all departments. Acting as a key support to the GM, AGMs focus on building expertise in hotel operations, guest satisfaction, and team development.

Responsibilities

AGMs are responsible for assisting the GM in all hotel operations, including Rooms, Food & Beverage, Events, and Engineering/METS. They ensure associate training is completed, guest satisfaction is met, and the hotel achieves operational goals. AGMs also oversee labor productivity, expense forecasting, and internal promotions, all while maintaining a highly effective Manager on Duty program.

Skills Needed

  • Technical Skills: Expertise in Rooms Operations, Food & Beverage, and Engineering; associate training and development; business acumen for cost management and forecasting; sales and revenue growth; and knowledge of building systems and brand standards.
  • Soft Skills: Strong organizational and planning abilities, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage a service culture.

General Manager Job Overview

General Managers (GMs) act as the CEOs of their properties, driving both short-term and long-term success. They oversee all aspects of hotel operations, from financial performance and guest satisfaction to associate engagement and operational strategy. GMs are also responsible for maintaining the property as a valuable asset for ownership.

Responsibilities

GMs lead hotel operations with a focus on the Balanced Scorecard, achieving high marks in Guest Satisfaction, Profitability, Market Share, and Associate Engagement. They establish and maintain relationships with owners and the local community, oversee capital expenditures, and ensure compliance with all audits and brand standards. GMs also foster an environment of continuous improvement and strategic planning for long-term success.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in all hotel departments; strategic thinking; sales, revenue, and marketing expertise; budgeting and financial acumen; and human resources management.
