Rachel Erkan has never been content to stay in one place very long. She’s lived in 10 cities. She chopped off and donated her hair five times. And now she’s moving up the culinary ranks in White Lodging’s Austin hotels.
She grew up in Oswego, New York, where she wasn’t allowed to watch TV and was encouraged to “cause a ruckus” in the woods behind her house. After creating a stir at the Culinary Institute of America, she joined White Lodging in 2011 as Chef De Partie at the Brush Creek Ranch in Saratoga, Wyoming.
Rachel was quickly recognized for her hard work and dedication, leading to a move from the rugged outback of the Ranch to the excitement of downtown Indianapolis and the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown. She continued to hone her craft as Kitchen Supervisor there and in 2015 was promoted to Senior Sous Chef at Corner Restaurant at the JW Marriott in Austin. Today, she’s helping lead the kitchen at Stella San Jac in The Westin Austin Downtown. She relishes the opportunity to cultivate talent in her kitchen and is determined to become executive chef at a new White Lodging property. At this rate, it won’t be long until she’s moving up again.
