Returning to the JW Marriott Indianapolis, White Lodging’s annual General Manager’s Conference “Engage 2017,” featured four action-packed days focused on associate engagement and 2017 goals.

For the first time in the company’s history, White Lodging brought in an outside emcee to manage the event from the stage. Noah Cappe, an actor and television personality who hosts “The Bachelorette Canada” and The Food Network’s “Carnival Eats,” kept the GMs on their toes, dubbing CEO Ken Barrett “K-dog” and “Special K”. He even chest bumped Regional Vice President Pete Sams at every opportunity.

The content and training at the conference prepared the general managers and key HR leaders to return to their properties with the best tools and plans to drive conversations with their associates about their daily duties, career goals and the overall direction of the company. After listening to a keynote speech from Jeremy Pietrocini of Gallup, Inc., the company that manages the White Lodging associate engagement survey, the general managers were given the opportunity to select which breakouts to attend related to the areas where their hotels needed the most assistance.

Along with a panel discussion of senior executives and a Q & A with founder and chairman Bruce White where he was asked rapid fire questions by his children, Senior Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer Chris Anderson unveiled the new White Lodging branding. The branding focuses on the people who run White Lodging’s hotels and the innovative spirit of the company.

After a game night and a roaring 20’s costume party, general managers, their spouses and company executives gathered on the last night to celebrate the year’s successes and the company’s top performers at the annual awards dinner. Kristy Nase, the general manager of the Hilton Garden Inn Silver Springs, was awarded the company’s highest honor and named the “Michael Howerton White Lodging GM of the Year”. The most prestigious award possible for a White Lodging GM, it is named after the late White Lodging GM Michael Howerton, and is given for overall excellence.
