DENVER MARRIOTT SOUTH HOTEL COMPLETES PROJECT INCREASING ENERGY EFFICIENCIES AND DECREASING COSTS
Denver Marriott recently completed a $65,000 investment to upgrade ballroom lighting with light-emitting diode (LED) technology
DENVER, Colo. (July 1, 2013): White Lodging and the Denver Marriott South Hotel (the “Hotel”) are pleased to announce the recently completed lighting renovations to the Hotel’s 8,190 sq. ft. ballroom. In efforts to create substantial energy and cost savings, the Hotel took advantage of emerging LED lighting technology with a $65,000 investment.
The Hotel’s General Manager Brian Lenfestey and Director of Engineering Alan Brannstrom worked together to plan, budget and implement an approach to capture the energy and cost saving potential of LED technology. As funding for the proposed ballroom lighting renovation became available, positive results from the upgrade were immediate.
“The improvement of the lighting quality in our ballroom has been amazing,” said Lenfestey. “The dimmable lighting system can easily be adjusted to fit the needs of each individual event and the customer feedback has been fantastic. The savings in labor, electricity usage and heating/cooling costs easily substantiated the return on investment for this project.”
With the lighting renovation, the Hotel has cut energy costs, lighting maintenance labor and HVAC loads while increasing light levels and providing quality illumination. The Hotel expects to achieve a combined annual return on investment of 58 percent, a $572,000 total savings lifetime that equates to annual hotel operating economies of $35,000.
Located near Park Meadows Mall, the 279 room property opened in 2003 and features 12,000 square feet of flexible event space used for meetings, events and social events. The management and engineering staffs were challenged to maintain high quality lighting options for a variety of events.
Westview Productions of Sheridan, CO was chosen to retro-fit the existing incandescent and halogen lighting with dimmable LED lamps and track fixtures. The new lighting has a minimum life of 40,000 hours and is covered by an impressive five-year replacement warranty for the lamps and 10-year warranty for the LED track heads. Additionally, a local electrical utility Xcel Energy offers a Lighting Retrofit Rebate program helping to further reduce cost for the Hotel.
